Hammer Mill

Operating Principle of Hammer Mill:

When the materials get into the working area of hammers, they are crushed by the rotating hammers of the Hammer Crusher with high rotation speed, the products which are crushed to meet the required size can be discharged by the outlet and become the final products, the large size products are brought back to the crushed area by the hammers of the Hammer Crusher for being re-crushed until they reached the required size.

There are two ways of grinding in Ball Mills processing:
Dry process and Wet process
It can be divided into tabular type and flowing type according to different forms of discharging material. Ball Mills is key equipment for regrinding. Ball mills can grind ore or other materials that can be grinded either by wet process or by dry process.

Working principle of Ball mill

This Ball Mill, a horizontal type and tubular running, has two warehouses. It runs along the outside gear. Materials spirally and evenly enter the first warehouse along the input hollow axis by input devices. In the warehouse, there is a ladder scale board or ripple scale board. Steel balls of different specifications are installed in the scale board. When the barrel body rotates, centrifugal force is produced. At the same time, the steel balls are carried to some height and then fall to grind and strike the material. After being grinded coarsely in the first warehouse, the material then enters into the second warehouse for regrinding. In the end, the powder is discharges by output material board.

Drum Flakers

Drum Flakers also known as Cooling Drums are used for solidifying various molten materials and are renowned for corrosion resistance and low maintenance. Operating Principle of Drum Flaker:

The hot material is applied to the Drum Flakers (cooling drum) by direct captivation into a trough, or indirect captivation using doctor/applicator rolls. The soften liquid is cooled on the cooling drum and after a partial revolution, the cooled and solidified product is removed by a scraper in the form of flake or film. The cooling drum of the Flaker is especially designed to provide an even cooling effect by having consistent and effective internal distribution.

Rotary Drum Flakers

Rotary Drum Flakers consist of a cylindrical drum having provision for cooling drum surface. One end of the drum shaft is connected to a gear box which is driven by a motor. The heating cooling media will be circulated in drum during operations, the drum rotates at a slow speed. A thin layer of the product to be dried / cooled, adheres to the outside of the rotating, drum and internally cooled drum. The product gets solidified and is after an almost complete rotation, scrapped off drum surface and at the same instant granulated in the form of flakes, falls on screw conveyor. At the bottom of conveyor, filling point is provided to fill the bag. The entire process is continuous operation, does not require manpower except bag filling. Pneumatic / hydraulic operation of scraper assemblies can be provided.

Evaporators

Evaporation is a major energy intensive operation in any processing plant like Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Food and dairy. Evaporators are thermal concentrators. Evaporators are used for concentrating dilute liquids, for reducing volume by evaporating water & for increasing solids content.

Evaporators are based on steam economy i.e. Kg of solvent evaporated per Kg of steam used. Reusing evaporated solvent as heating medium, higher steam economies are achieved. This method of increasing utilization of steam is used in multi-effect evaporator. In multi-effect evaporator vapor from the first effect is passed over to the next effect in which boiling takes place at lower temperature & pressure.

Thermo-compression evaporator is another alternative to increase steam economy. Vapor of solvent evaporated is compressed & is used as heating medium in the same evaporator.

Falling Film Evaporators

In Falling film evaporators, feed solution forms a film in the evaporator tubes & gets evaporated. These are best suited for heat sensitive materials such as fruit juices. The hold up time is short & liquid doesn't get overheated. Falling film evaporators are not suitable for crystallizing liquids. They are not suitable for salting & severely scaling liquids or solutions.

Falling Film Evaporators can be particularly useful when the temperature difference between the liquid to be evaporated and the heating media is low.

Rising Film Evaporators

RISING FILM EVEPORATORS are Useful for heat sensitive product. These are unsuitable to salting or severely scaling liquids. They are suitable for corrosive liquids.

Feed enters the bottom of the heating tubes and as it heats, vaporizes. The ascending force of this vapor produced during the boiling causes liquid and vapors to flow upwards in parallel flow. At the same time the production of vapor increases and the product is pressed as a thin film on the walls of the tubes, and the liquid rises upwards. This co-current upward movement against gravity has the beneficial effect of creating a high degree of turbulence in the liquid. This is advantageous during evaporation of highly viscous products and products that have a tendency to foul the heating surfaces.

The temperature difference in the rising film evaporators should be high between the heating chest and boiling chamber to ensure the circulation and formation of a climbing film.Rising Film evaporators are flexible enough to be converted to Forced Circulation Evaporators.

Forced Circulation Evaporators

Forced Circulation Evaporators Can handle salting, scaling and fouling liquids. These are suitable for crystalline products, corrosive viscous solutions.

Forced Circulation Evaporators are short tube evaporators and are ideally used when the boiling of feed liquid on the heating surfaces is to be avoided due to the salting and fouling characteristics of the liquid. Hence in these evaporators the flow velocity in the tubes is kept very high. Forced Circulation Evaporator can be configured in single or multiple effects for steam economy.

Forced Circulation Evaporators have relatively high hold up or residence time thus not suitable for heat sensitive liquids. They suffer frequently from plugging of tubes, salting in tubes & poor circulation.

Short Tube Vertical Evaporators

Short Tube Vertical Evaporators are most widely used in Sugar Industry in evaporation of cane-sugar juice.

Short Tube Vertical Evaporators are less expensive & easy de-scaling. This type is seldom used as a crystallizing evaporator. By installing a propeller, propeller calendria type evaporator can be used for crystalline products. They suffer from mild scaling but can be cleaned mechanically.

These evaporators can be used with scaling liquids, since evaporation takes place inside the tubes, which are accessible for cleaning. Fairly high heat-transfer coefficients are obtained with thin liquors (i.e., water or dilute solutions of 1-5 cP).

Pug Mixers are similar to ribbon blender except for the blade configuration. These mixers are also called as the paddle mixer. They are used for various processes including mixing, compounding, dispersing, suspending, emulsifying, tempering, accelerating chemical or physical reactions, granulating, breaking down agglomerates.

The inner walls of the Mixer are constructed with SS or MS sheets while the mixer which consists of a center shaft of an appropriate diameter and is either made of S.S or M.S material. These mixers are also fitted with specially designed agitator blades in the central shaft to provide contraflow action. Contraflow ensures consistent circulation to mix/blend ingredients from one end to another and hence homogenize the batch. Both the ends of the vessel are provided with stuffing boxes on the shaft. Drum dryer is basically a conduction dryer. Wet feed film is applied to the rotating metal cylinder inside which, a heating medium is supplied. Material film dries to the final moisture level and is scraped off. The feed stock is introduced into a single or twin steam heated drum dryer in a uniform film by use of variety of feeding devices and arrangements depending upon the material to be dried. The moisture is dried off in less than one revolution and the dried solid is removed usually in the form of a thin sheet/powder by doctor blade.
